Privacy Policy

Privacy is not just a feature of our product; it is the entire product. We have designed AsidePocket from the ground up to collect as little data as possible.

What we do not do

• We do not track your usage across other apps or websites.
• We do not sell or rent your personal information to advertisers or third-party data brokers.
• We do not perform analytics on the content of your messages.
• We do not request access to your device's address book or contacts.

Data we store

To provide our service, we must store some data on our secure servers:

• Account Information: Clerk manages sign-in credentials. We store the profile and account identifiers needed to connect that sign-in to AsidePocket.
• Messages and uploads: Messages and user-uploaded images are stored so they can sync across devices. Connections use HTTPS/TLS in transit, and our cloud database and file storage use server-side encryption at rest. AsidePocket is not end-to-end encrypted.
• Connection Graphs: We maintain the necessary routing data to know that User A is connected to User B, solely for the purpose of delivering messages.
• Payment Data: Payment details are handled by our payment processor (Stripe). AsidePocket stores the subscription status and connection-credit balance tied to your account, along with the account and transaction references needed to provide purchased credits, reconcile refunds, prevent abuse, and support billing questions. We do not store your full card number.

Connection credits and Premium

Free includes two lifetime unique connections. We store remaining included and purchased activation capacity so account limits work across devices. Capacity is used only when a new relationship is successfully established, regardless of who sent its request. Sending or declining a request does not consume capacity. Purchased credits do not expire and remain associated with your account after a Premium subscription ends.

A purchased-credit refund requires updating that balance. We retain the transaction and usage records needed to distinguish an unused credit from one already used for an established connection. Refunding an unused credit reverses that credit; refunding a consumed credit does not undo an established connection or create a negative balance.

How your unlock PIN is protected

• Your PIN: We never store your PIN itself — only a one-way cryptographic hash used to verify it. Repeated wrong guesses temporarily lock the unlock screen, and locking the app immediately clears your conversations from the screen.
• PIN recovery: If you choose to configure recovery, we store your question and hint so they can be shown to you on the locked recovery screen. Your answer is normalized for case-insensitive matching and stored only as a one-way cryptographic hash; we do not store the readable answer.
• Contact Aliases & Notes: The custom names and notes you assign to connections are stored securely with your account so they follow you across devices. They are only ever shown to you, after unlock.

Third-Party Services

We use a minimal number of trusted third-party services to operate AsidePocket:

• Clerk: For account authentication and sign-in.
• Stripe: For processing Premium subscriptions, one-time connection-credit purchases, refunds, and retaining payment records.
• Replit and its cloud infrastructure providers: For hosting the application, database, and file storage.
• JuicyAds: Free accounts may receive a clearly labeled banner after intentionally unlocking the messenger. The ad is isolated in a sandboxed frame with a no-referrer policy. We do not send JuicyAds message content, contacts, Events, account identifiers, subscription identifiers, or private route information. JuicyAds may still process network and device information, such as an IP address and browser details, under its own privacy practices. Premium and other ad-free accounts do not load the provider.

Advertising, cookies, and regional choices

We use only a single non-personalized banner placement for eligible Free accounts. We do not use private activity inside AsidePocket to target ads. The advertising provider may use storage, cookies, or similar technologies when permitted by your browser and applicable law. Where consent or another regional choice is required, the banner must remain disabled until that choice is available and honored. AsidePocket is intended only for adults who are legally permitted to use the Service in their location.

External video links

AsidePocket may let users share expiring links to videos hosted by third parties. We store the link only while it remains active in the conversation; we do not upload, host, preview, or process the video itself. When a link expires or is revoked, we remove the usable URL from our records.

Opening one of these links takes you to a separate browser tab. The outside service has its own privacy, account, retention, download, and content policies. AsidePocket cannot delete a third-party video or prevent a recipient from copying a link, taking a screenshot, or recording content they can view.

Your Rights

You can correct profile information in the app and permanently delete your account from Settings. Deletion removes your AsidePocket profile, contacts, connection requests, conversations and stored messages, Events you created, tracked uploads, notification subscriptions, and Clerk sign-in identity. It also immediately cancels any active AsidePocket subscription.

Stripe may retain transaction and invoice records for accounting, fraud prevention, dispute handling, and legal compliance. We may retain abuse reports when needed for safety. Database links to your deleted profile and conversations are removed, but report text may retain details another person included.
