Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about how AsidePocket protects your privacy.
An encrypted messenger protects message content in transit, but its interface can still be immediately recognizable. AsidePocket focuses on a different problem: when concealed, the messenger sits behind an ordinary-looking camouflage experience, with private access before conversations appear. That adds discretion around casual observers, not stronger encryption.
No. Messages and uploaded images are stored to sync across your devices. Connections use HTTPS/TLS in transit and cloud database and file storage are encrypted at rest, but the service processes messages. Choose an end-to-end encrypted product if that protection is your priority.
No. The homepage uses a clearly fictional demonstration shell to explain the concept. Actual camouflage options are different and are not shown in public marketing demonstrations. The separate access guide provides the real setup instructions you need before entering the app.
The private How It Works guide separates a short first-time setup path from the two-step returning-user path. It also includes optional instructions for each camouflage shell, video walkthroughs, and troubleshooting. We keep the exact hidden entry details on that noindex guide rather than repeating them across the public site.
No. Account creation is open. Once you have an account, you can connect with someone using their exact username or AP code; sending a connection request is separate from signing up.
No. Free members can receive requests and exchange messages with connected people. Establishing a new connection requires available capacity for both people unless they have active Premium. Free includes two lifetime unique connections, counted only when a new connection is successfully established. After using the included capacity, a connection credit or active Premium can provide more capacity.
AsidePocket encrypts data in transit and its cloud database and file storage encrypt data at rest. AsidePocket is not end-to-end encrypted: the service stores and processes messages so they can sync across your devices. Its distinctive focus is discretion around people nearby, using a camouflage shell, hidden gesture, PIN, and quick conceal. No app can prevent a recipient from copying, photographing, or recording content they can view.
When the messenger is concealed, the app shows your selected ordinary-looking camouflage experience instead of conversations. If the messenger is already unlocked and visible, someone looking at your screen can still see it. Camouflage reduces casual discovery; it cannot guarantee that nobody will notice or access what is already on screen.
AsidePocket's message notifications are designed to omit sender names and message text. A notification can still reveal that activity occurred, and what your device displays depends on its browser and operating-system settings. Review those settings on each device.
It helps make the messenger less obvious to a casual nearby observer when the private area is concealed. It cannot prevent screenshots, a recipient copying content, account activity appearing elsewhere, forensic inspection, or access by someone who already has your authorized session or can see an unlocked screen.
You can request permanent account deletion from Settings in the unlocked app. This removes your AsidePocket account and associated conversations, contacts, and tracked uploads through the service's deletion process. Some payment records and safety reports may be retained as described in the Privacy Policy; backend cleanup is not an instant guarantee that every copy disappears at once.
A payment processor descriptor will appear on your financial records. For privacy reasons we do not publish the exact descriptor on this public site; review the current statement information in the signed-in app before subscribing. Banks and card issuers may shorten or format a descriptor differently.
If you configured a recovery question in advance, select “Forgot PIN?” on the unlock screen, answer it, and choose a new PIN. Capitalization does not matter, and your answer is stored only as a one-way hash. Choose an answer only you would know and a hint that does not reveal it. If recovery was not configured, contact support from the account you signed up with for account help.
Yes. AsidePocket is tied to your account, not a device. Sign in on any phone, tablet, or computer and your conversations are there — protected by the same camouflage shell and PIN unlock on every device.
AsidePocket does not sync your address book. You can send a request using another member's exact username or AP code. Free includes two lifetime unique connections. A connection is counted when both people successfully connect, regardless of who sent the request. Sending a request does not use capacity, and previously established pairs can reconnect without another charge.
A $5.99 connection credit adds capacity for one additional unique connection. It is a one-time, non-recurring purchase, never expires, and persists across devices and subscriptions. Included Free capacity is used first. If Premium ends, existing connections and unused purchased credits remain available.
You can share an expiring link to a video hosted on another service. We chose this path to keep AsidePocket lightweight and maintain a clear privacy boundary: the app does not upload, store, preview, or play the video. The link opens in a separate browser tab and can expire from the conversation, but the outside host controls the video itself. Expiring the link cannot delete the video or prevent someone from copying the link, taking a screenshot, or recording what they can view.
Free accounts include two lifetime unique connections, can receive messages, and have three camouflage shells. Premium allows unlimited new connections while active, removes ads, and provides extra shells and Event features. Existing connections remain available if Premium later ends.
AsidePocket displays one current annual offer at a time. While the Founding Member offer is open, members see the Founding Annual rate. If that offer closes, a regular yearly rate may be available. Prices are always confirmed before checkout.
You can cancel Premium at any time through account settings; access remains active through the current billing period. Refund requests are reviewed by support and the payment processor rather than guaranteed by this FAQ. Refunding an unused purchased credit reverses that credit; refunding a consumed credit does not restore the credit, change the connection graph, or create a negative balance.
